Brief History

How the BDC Got Started

In 1991 the Bettendorf Development Corporation (BDC) was created as a branch of the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce to provide assistance in bringing a prospective company into Bettendorf. Since 1991 the BDC has played a crucial role in economic development in the city through the removal of various eyesores in the downtown such as a lime pile and blighted buildings, and replacing them with the Quad City Waterfront Convention Center, two new hotels and four new office buildings. The BDC has also assisted in the development and redevelopment of five other corridors entitled: the Utica Ridge Corridor, the Golden Triangle, Kimberly Road Corridor, Riverside Development Park and I-80 and Middle Road.

The 1997 Capital Campaign

In 1997 the BDC underwent a major capital campaign raising just under $1 million. Within the following 10 years we utilized that $1 million to create $635 million worth of new development or a 76% growth of assessed value within the city of Bettendorf.

2014 and Beyond

The City of Bettendorf, the BDC and a cross section of regional partners recently began the process of creating a long range economic development plan with the assistance of the Institute of Decision Making – University of Northern Iowa. Leaders recognize the significance of all community segments and are working together to maintain the quality of place we have enjoyed in the past while pursuing a proactive vision of continual improvement for the future. This planning effort can provide the focus for maximizing the positive impact of the resources that are available to make the future of Bettendorf even brighter.
